The Army Combat Uniform (ACU) is the current combat uniform worn by United States Army personnel. It is the successor to the Battle Dress Uniform (BDU) and Desert Camouflage Uniform (DCU) worn during the 1980s and 1990s. It features a number of design changes, as well as a different camouflage pattern from its predecessor. Army Combat Uniforms are comprised of ACU pants and ACU coats, typically topped off with a matching ACU patrol cap or ACU boonie hat.
ACUs are available in several digital color patterns. The standard Army issue color scheme is Universal Camouflage. The ACU is also available in digital desert, digital woodland, and Multicam pattern.
The ACU is made from synthetic cotton blends to avoid shrinking and has a permanent press finish applied to prevent looking "unsat". All ACU's are treated with Dupont Teflon to make them water and stain resistant.
The Army combat uniform is now available in the Flame Resistant and Permetherin Insect Resistant versions.
